Dallas Camera Club Field Trip for August 2005 will be on Saturday, 13 August, to photograph architectural lighting at the home of Carl Youngberg. Carl lives at 309 North Waterview Drive in Richardson, TX 75080. He has installed extensive lighting all around the house and yard. Although the yard is relatively small, it is filled with all sort of fascinating photo opportunities.
We will gather at his house starting at 7:30pm to give everyone a chance to scope the place out before dark. Remember that some of the best images of lighting details are made just before and after sunset, while there is still light in the sky. Be sure to bring your tripod if you have one.
309 North Waterview Drive (Mapsco 16C) is on the west side of Richardson between Beltline Road and Arapaho Road. If one is on North Central Expressway (Hwy 75), take the Beltline Road / Main Street exit in Richardson and drive west on Beltline. There are stoplights at Inge, Floyd, and Waterview. Turn right (north) at Waterview (third light). The house is three blocks from Beltline on the north side of the street.
Alternatively, if one is coming from North Dallas / Addison traveling east on Beltline, there are stoplights in Richardson at Coit, Mimosa, and Waterview. Turn left (north) at Waterview. The house is three blocks from Beltline on the north side of the street.
This field trip is scheduled for the weekend of December 3 to 5 at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. It is located 18 miles south of Socorro, New Mexico, just off of I-25. The refuge is the 2nd most photographed wildlife site in the U.S., and features thousands of sandhill cranes, snow geese and wild ducks as well as many canada geese, cranes, pheasants, grebes, deer, coyotes, bald eagles and a whole host of other raptors, all in a beautiful mountain setting. The feature is the sunrise fly-aways where thousands of snow geese take off simultaneously from a single location to go to the feeding areas. Access to the birds is excellent, and many opportunities to photograph individual birds can be found. More information can be found by clicking at the link above. Socorro is 70 miles south of Albuquerque on I-25. The trip is about 650 miles from Dallas and takes about 10 to 11 hours of driving.
Enchanted Rock is a state natural area. The "rock" is a huge pink granite dome that rises 425' above the ground and covers 840 acres with a beautiful stream that flows by the base. It is particularly photogenic early in the morning and late in the evening and the view from the top is breathtaking. It is located on FM 965 about 18 miles north of Fredericksburg, an old German settlement founded in 1849. Fredericksburg features lots of antique stores, museums, restored 19th century homes and buildings, scads of B&Bs or furnished cottages and several good restaurants. There is an art festival during that weekend too. Plan to meet the rest of us at Freidhelm's Bavarian Inn, 905 W. Main at 7:00PM Saturday for a great schnitzel dinner. Also of interest is Lost Maples State Park, about 60 miles SW. It boasts one of only two strands of native maple trees in Texas, and they should be spectacular at this time of the year. Fredericksburg is 260 miles from Dallas on I35 and US290.
The main event is a Chuck-wagon competition featuring over twenty five 100% authentic chuck-wagon encampments and a cookoff. The camps will be on the lawns all around the Exchange Building and the Coliseum. Also featured is a cutting horse competition, a small rodeo, cowboy trade fair, cowboy poetry and Texas Swing Bands. The event begins with a chuck-wagon parade at high-noon on Friday, Oct 22 which runs down main street from downtown Ft. Worth to the Stockyards. We will meet for lunch at 11:45AM, Sat 23rd just south of the stockyards at Joe T. Garcia's at N. Commerce and 22nd stree. Click on the image for more info.
Fall in northern New Mexico features gorgeous fall color, mountain vistas and quaint, adobe mountain villages. We will join long time resident Dr. Jim Tulloh for two days of photography and touring in unique, out-of-the-way locations. Condo rentals are available in Angel Fire and there are many hotels and B&B's in nearby Taos. If you are interested in this field trio, contact Gary Kelly by Sept 21st.
We will be allowed to photograph inside and outside of a really unique home at 309 N. Waterview Drive in Richardson (Mapsco 16C). Jerry Comer found the place while scouting this area for his architectural detail subjects. It has been featured in at least one magazine article. Best quick description is that it is a cross between a small Spanish hacienda and a miniature English manor house. There a lots of things to take photograph of there.

Please call Gary Kelly if you are considering either trip.
