  1. Image's width must be no more than 1024 pixels and height no more than 768 pixels.
  2. JPEG format with file size of 600KB or less.
  3. File name format is - INITIALS  image_title.jpg
  4. E-mail or CD label must contain the Photographer’s Name, Class of Competition, Names of Images and Contest Month

FORMATING DIGITAL IMAGES
FOR SUBMISSION AS PROJECTED IMAGES

To prepare a digital image for submission, follow these steps.

  1. Choose Edit and Enhance Photos

  1. Open: Open image. To save original image, make a duplicate to use for resizing and submittal. (Instructions below are for Elements 5.0, but other versions of Elements provide similar capability.)

  2. Flatten: If image has multiple layers, flatten at this time. Under the Layer drop-down menu, choose Flatten Image.

  3. Resize: Resize image so that Pixel Dimensions do not to exceed 1024 pixels in width or 768 pixels in height, ie, the image must fit within a box that is no wider than 1024 and no higher than 768. Be aware that images with a vertical orientation must still not exceed 768 pixels in height. Thus, their width will be much less than 1024 pixels. Do not confuse these parameters with preparing to print an image. They are not related.

    1. Under the Image drop-down menu, choose Resize and then Image Size.
    2. Check Resample Image and Constrain Proportions boxes and then change Pixel Dimensions to meet size constraints above. Click OK.

  1. Set Color Space: Most unmanaged color systems assume sRGB color space. Since we do not know what system our judges will use to view your images, it is recommended (not required) that you change the color space, if different, to sRGB.

  1. Sharpen: If desired, this is a good time to sharpen the final image.

  2. Save: Save the image in JPEG (jpg) format. Note: Be careful not to save these changes to your original master image file.

    1. Under the File drop-down menu, choose Save As and select JPEG from the drop-down list. Check the ICC Profile box.

    2. Enter the file name for the image as follows: Photographer’s initials in caps followed by title of image in lower case and jpg extension. Example - HR lion charging.jpg. It is important to include your initials along with the image title to help us accurately manage the images during judging and presentation. Do not include any more info such as "copy", "ver 1", "July", "Advanced"...

    3. Hit Save which takes you the next dialog box. Under Format Options choose Baseline (“Standard”). Choose the highest Image Quality setting (probably 10 to 12) that yields a file size less than 600K. Check the Size at the bottom of the dialog box to insure file size number is less than 600K. Ignore the number after the slash and the white box on right which may say 56.6 Kbps.

    4. Caution: Recommend not using Save for Web because it strips out the color profile information embedded in the image.

  1. Submit: There are two ways to submit images - e-mail or CD. E-mail is preferred. Important - Check your file size and image size to be sure the image you now have is a JPEG file with a file size under 600K and image dimensions that fit within a box that is no larger than 1024 pixels wide and 768 pixels high.

    1. Submitting by e-mail

      1. E-mail images to projected@dallascameraclub.org. Any change in this email address will be announced 1 month prior to submissions in the DCC newsletter or you will be notified by email.

      2. Attach image files to email or place into body of email depending upon your browser.

      3. Include the Photographer’s Name, Class of Competition (B, A or M), Name of Image and Contest Month in body of e-mail with images attached.
           Sample e-mail text
                 Jane Doe - M
                 Dawn in Yosemite
                 April

      4. E-mails must be received the day of the DCC competition meeting (1st Tuesday of the month). E-mail entries for next month's competition may be sent any time after the first meeting of the month. It is recommended that images be sent several days prior to the meeting. If you cannot attend the meeting, you can still send images for the competition.

      5. The Projected Image Chairperson will confirm receipt/rejection of e-mail images. Email entries must be received before the first meeting of each month in order for the chairman to send the confirmation of receipt. If the image or file size is too large, or it is not received by the deadline, the image will be ineligible for judging. Rejected images may be resent, if received before the deadline above. Email entries that have 'gone astray' or are sent the day of meeting and rejected will not be entered that month.

    2. Submitting on CD
      1. Burn image to CD.

      2. Label CD with Photographer’s Name, Class of Competition, Names of Images and Contest Month.
            Sample CD label:
                John Doe - B
                Dawn in Yosemite
                April

      3. Turn in your CD to the Projected Images Chairperson at the DCC competition meeting (1st Tuesday of the month). If the image or file size is too large, the image will be ineligible for judging. CDs will not be returned unless requested.

If there is a need for additional guidance in preparing an image, the Projected Images Chairperson will be available at the DCC meeting or you may request help via e-mail to the above address or by phone
