May Newsletter

Guest speaker for May 15th

The presenters for the May Program (May 15) is Paula Buzenius.

One way to turned a hobby into a money making endeavor … ending with hands on instruction on creating a montage image using several photographs and layers in Photoshop.

Paula Buzenius began her photographic endeavor in 2002 when she bought a 1.5 megapixel camera and joined the Dallas Camera Club. Because of the limited megapixels of her camera and the fact she was competing against “film”, she learned the importance of digital software to compensate for her camera’s limitations. When Canon came out with its first EOS Rebel, she upgraded and thought herself in heaven with 6 megapixels. It was at this time she had the opportunity to photograph her first musical. Eventually, with better equipment and the continuing requests from High School theater directors, a hobby has become a career.

Posters, created for the high school musical performances she photographs, are popular with students and parents alike. While she will introduce some of the challenges she had to overcome photographing live action in a dark theater, the majority of Paula’s presentation will be devoted to creating a montage image using the same techniques in creating the posters . The image to be created for this presentation will not be a remake of one of her musical posters, but geared more toward artistic interpretation of a combination of photographs which may prove more interest to Dallas Camera Club members.

If you have them, bring your laptops with Photoshop installed for hands on instruction to create a montage working with Photoshop layers. If you are laptop deprived, disks with digital files of instruction and photographs will be provided for you to take home so you can re-create the workshop at your leisure. Our August competition topic is Altered Reality and learning how to use layers in Photoshop can be helpful.
