Outside Competitions

Outward Bound is a project that one of the club's former presidents, Harry Rumberger, came up with to encourage club members to participate in not only our own internal competitions, but also competitions that happen outside of the club. (Outside competitions) So much so that the club has appointed a person just to keep the club informed of such competitions. Kaye Hargis has graciously taken on this task and will from time to time announce these outside competitions during the meeting and here on this web site. Here are some upcoming competitions that you are encouraged to enter.

National Geographic Traveler

Information about the 2010 World in Focus Photo contest has not yet been posted. However, you can sign up for email notices about this contest and other contests sponsored by Traveler.

Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest

This will be the Smithsonian magazine's 8th annual contest. Five categories--Altered Images, Americana, The Natural World, People and Travel. Photos taken within the past three years (since January 1, 2008). Entries must be uploaded by December 1, 2010.

National Park Foundation

Share the Experience; an annual photography competition for amateur photographers. Sponsored by the National Park Foundation. Images taken at our national parks, monuments, national forests and refuges. Will launch the 2010 contest in late spring. Watch the web site. (web page currently under construction)

Outdoor Photographer
Your Favorite Places

Submit photos of your favorite places from around the world. Winning photo will be published in Outdoor Photographer. Entry deadline is June 7, 2010. This publication sponsors several contests throughout the year. Check the web site for this and other contests.

Trinity River Corridor Photo Contest

This will be the second year for this contest and DCC is a sponsor. Images taken between January 1 to October 15 in the Trinity River corridor will qualify. Please check out page 12 for more information on the contest.

Tamron Backyard Wildlife Photo Contest

This is the second of four photo contests Tamron will sponsor this year. Images of wildlife found in your backyard, local parks, urban or rural areas, not from zoos or aquariums. Runs from April 1 to June 30. Enter contest at the web site
