Michael Mulvey

The Best of Michael Mulvey

WEBSITE

Michael Mulvey is an American fine art and editorial photographer, artist, and educator based in Texas, renowned for his narrative-driven imagery that captures human experiences and social complexities. As a former senior staff photographer and photo editor for The Dallas Morning News, Mulvey contributed to the team's 2006 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography, awarded for vivid documentation of the chaos and suffering following Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. His editorial work, including poignant images from the disaster's aftermath, exemplifies his ability to convey emotional depth through photojournalism.

In addition to his journalistic achievements, Mulvey holds a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a concentration in photography from Texas Woman's University, earned in 2021, where he explored experimental and abstract forms. He currently serves as a Visiting Professor of Art and Photography at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, teaching courses that emphasize storytelling and visual arts. Mulvey's fine art practice includes cameraless photography and exhibitions exploring themes like gentrification and light manipulation, often presented through solo and group shows in Texas galleries. His multifaceted career bridges photojournalism, education, and contemporary art, influencing emerging photographers through jury roles in competitions like those of the Texas Photographic Society.
