and learn how to best leverage the resources of the club to improve your photography.
The objective of the Dallas Camera Club is the mutual entertainment and education of its members in all forms of amateur photographic art. The DCC hosts contests and events including monthly competitions, field trips, training classes for all skill levels, workshops, programs of general interest, an Annual Awards Banquet and an annual competition with the Fort Worth Camera Club. The DCC emphasizes club competition as a learning process. Importance is placed on helping the beginner, or new member, feel at ease, ask questions, learn and participate.

Drone Photography & Video Advantages
Audience take away
What I hope to bring to light for the audience is the advantages that a drone can bring to the art of both photography and video. There are really only 2 main key points here which are quite significant to traditional ground-based photography.
They are:
- Perspective
- Convenience, mostly in the area of saving time.
I have been shooting photography for over 15 years and video for eight years. My photography career started off quite accidentally and I pretty much fell into it by way of needing images for a website I created for my boating hobby back in the light 90s from there. From there, I was trying to find out what kind of photography I wanted to do so of course, dabbled in portraiture, wedding, and even newborn photography, but quickly found out that was not for me. I did really enjoy shooting models in the studio as that allowed me a little more artistic latitude in that I could, play with the light, but even that was not enough so I ventured more into combining photography and compositing which I really enjoyed as I very much like crating art from various photographs with an end vision of the composite representing something that would either be difficult or impossible to achieve otherwise.
I now shoot mainly video for clients in the Ranch Real Estate business. I travel mainly around Texas shooting ranches for various clients and occasionally traveling out of state and country. I have shot tracts of land as small as a few acres that is nothing but dirt to unbelievable ranches with mansions, beautiful equestrian centers, cattle ranches, vineyards, and hunting ranches with exotic game.
With Technology constantly changing we can be difficult to keep up with, but every once in a while, a technology comes along that can help us if not improve, but at least diversify the tools that help us with our craft. I believe that the drones that are available today due just that. I hope that you will come out, and hear what I have to say about drone photography, and video and that it may inspire you to push the limits of your craft just a little bit further.

Join us for an afternoon tour of a new exhibition of Richard Avedon’s photography from his acclaimed project, “In The American West” at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Ft. Worth. We will meet for lunch around 11:30 am at a nearby restaurant (Lucile's | A Fort Worth Restaurant Classic) and then reassemble at the museum to begin our docent lead tour at 1:30 pm. “This free, family-friendly event will feature several activities of a traditional Charreada, which is like a rodeo and practiced in Mexico. FREE admission. Live music, horsemanship, vendors and more.” Food and drink will be available on site. Parking at the arena may fill early in the afternoon so please check the event web site for parking and shuttle information.

For anyone that has not experienced minor league baseball or has and wants more, you are in for a treat. Minor league ballparks are smaller than those used for major league teams like the Texas Rangers and honestly, way more fun! The Dallas Camera Club has a block of seats along the 3rd base line giving members an excellent opportunity to capture the action up close and personal. The game with the Corpus Christi Hooks begins at 7:05 pm but I suggest getting there at least an hour earlier to be able to scout other shooting locations and photograph the players warming up. Tickets are $31, that gets you a seat and a $10 voucher for the concession stands. Please purchase your tickets using the PayPal link on the DCC website under the Field Trips tab. Contact me, lpetterborg@gmail.com, after you buy your ticket so I can keep a list and if you have any questions. Your longest lens will probably give you the best images of the action, but short focal lengths work well for crowd shots and the post-game fireworks. Tripods will be allowed but not on the grass playing field.

The Dallas Camera Club is going to Caddo Lake this year for its annual Fall Color field trip. It has been almost 10 years since the club last visited Caddo Lake, so many members may not be familiar with the lake. Here is a short introduction. For more details, see the links at the end.
Caddo Lake is one of Texas' few natural lakes. Some say the only one. It is also one of 27 wetlands in the US recognized by Ramsar Convention. Lodging and boat rentals are centered around the tiny town of Uncertain, Texas, population less than 100. Caddo Lake is on the Texas–Louisiana border about 3 hours east of Dallas. It has diverse aquatic plant life and wildlife in a bald cypress swamp with a bottomland hardwood forest. It is home to 190 species of trees and shrubs, 22 species of amphibians, 47 mammal species and more than 220 kinds of birds. Over 40 of the native bird species are endangered. Here are a few photos from around the lake.
